Sandra Ambrozy

The Kresge Foundation
Senior Program Officer
Troy, MI
As senior program officer for Human Services, Sandra McAlister Ambrozy reviews grant proposals from community-based nonprofit organizations and explores grantmaking opportunities that support The Kresge Foundation goals and values. As a member of Kresge’s Human Services team, Sandra helps shape and refine grantmaking so Kresge’s philanthropic dollars are used most effectively to build the capacity and extend the reach of human-services providers. “I believe the hallmark of a just and civil society is the quality of its support for the poor and vulnerable,” Sandra says. “I think our Human Services team’s focus on strengthening the effectiveness of organizations that help move people out of poverty is the highest and best use of Kresge’s resources at this time.” Sandra joined Kresge in 1982 and served initially as a general program assistant and program officer. She staffed Kresge’s Green Building Initiative to encourage nonprofits to design environmentally sustainable facilities and coordinated the Partnership to Raise Community Capital, a national initiative for community foundations. Before coming to Kresge, she worked at the Boston Children’s Museum and the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities in Boston. Sandra is a graduate of Tufts University and is a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional. She serves on the board of the Funders Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities and was a reviewer for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Sustainable Communities and Regional Planning Grant Program in 2010 and 2011.
